My dad was an avid skier and still today races in the Seniors 85year old category! He wanted his children to grow up with the sport he had always loved.

Me and my five siblings all started with the same pair of old wooden Karhu skis tied to our snowboots. Love/hate relationship if I have ever witnessed one! I fell in love even though my first ski photo shows tears running down my frozen face : )

The age to learn is definitely individual - My seven year old just finished his sixth season on skis as my four year old could care less. His snow sport of choice is sledding and snowball fights!Mariahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12374638632297593433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1809742348327706807.post-14685586540712783692010-05-25T11:45:23.839-06:002010-05-25T11:45:23.839-06:00Love it! Back in 1984, skis did not have 'brakes' on them, so when the ski was put on the ground, you had to make sure you clamped your foot in pretty quick, before it slid away... down the hill and into the creek, as was my first experience skiing. Icicle ski aside, my first ski vacation is the first family 'holiday' I can remember, and definitely some of my fondest childhood memories.Katy Martinhttp://www.resortqueststeamboat.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1809742348327706807.post-13792905003744138732010-04-23T08:30:35.315-06:002010-04-23T08:30:35.315-06:00Looks like a future winter camper to me.Looks like a future winter camper to me.Jeremy and Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12828266203892117748noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1809742348327706807.post-30794268842544584122010-02-18T11:48:18.576-07:002010-02-18T11:48:18.576-07:00Jackson just may be the coolest little dude in the...Jackson just may be the coolest little dude in the Boat!Heidihttp://www.heiditown.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1809742348327706807.post-50409555345917417952009-08-28T08:54:20.623-06:002009-08-28T08:54:20.623-06:00Katy - what's a diggler? Last ...The short n sweet: April can be hit or miss. Last year we a base of over 100” and we had incredible powder days up until the last day. The year before it snowed 14 inches the Friday before closing day and actually went down as one of my top ten days ever!

Some years the snow can be patchy on the runs that get a LOT of traffic and sun. However, with increasingly improved snowmaking and grooming, it is not really a problem.

At that time of year, the lodging rates are the cheapest they get all season (and ResortQuest is offering 30% off 3+ nights running right now). Lift tickets are also cheaper.

If you come at that time because it works for you -- timing-wise and budget-wise -- just have an open mind. Steamboat will have had a whole season to build up an excellent base of snow so conditions, at worst, enjoy the excellent groomers during the longer, warmer days.

The conditions may be icier in the mornings and slushier in the afternoons. So, if for some reason the conditions are not “epic” look at your vacation as allowing you the opportunity to enjoy a sleep-in, ski throughout the middle of the day till 2-4pm, and then enjoy Steamboat’s après ski scene. At that time of year Steamboat also offers a lot of free concerts at the base area, and Slopeside Bar outside the Torian Plum (on the ski slopes) often has live music. Soak up some sunshine, brews and wood fired pizza – in your ski boots!

Please let me know if I can do anything else to help you with your vacation plans!Katy Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08241932218821021057noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1809742348327706807.post-14029686653413562492008-11-03T13:53:00.000-07:002008-11-03T13:53:00.000-07:00Hi. I woke up this morning hoping to jump on the snow blower to dig my way to the gondola and saddly, the storm stayed south - just 3.5" at midmtn report. The 5 a.m. ski report said 9 inches of fresh. At least 1 inch more fell while I was putting on my boots in the parking lot. As the gondola car I was in climbed to Thunderhead the snow became so thick the visibility was reduced to about 15 feet. The sky was falling in on itself, all in the name of powder. Woohoo!!!

Knowing there would be plenty of powderhounds howling for the opening of Storm Peak, I chose Oops to Ted’s Ridge as a first run; 24 inches of pow met me there. Every powder day is tied for first with best ever in my book. This first run, with no one else around and snow blowing up around my waist, certainly was the best ever. Then it was up Thunderhead Express and on to Storm Peak via Vagabond-Surprise. Halfway up Storm Peak the consistency of the snow changed from fantastic to sublime. Sideburns to Sunset was the deepest run I have had yet this year, bonafide face shots.

As I write this the temperature is 21 degrees and the skies are dumping. The best Christmas present ever!!! Get those cards in the mail, finish wrapping the presents and get up to Mt Werner to enjoy some holiday Champagne Powder® snow."

Happy Snowy Holidays!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1809742348327706807.post-70086976277947756512007-12-13T09:18:00.000-07:002007-12-13T09:18:00.000-07:00The 6 inches of Champagne powder that fell last ni...The 6 inches of Champagne powder that fell last night felt more like 10, and it was some of the lightest snow I've ever skied. It was as if someone took a feather pillow and emptied it out over the Stemboat Ski Resort! This is what skiing in Steamboat is all about and I LOVE IT!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
