These are the kind of weather forecasts I live for. Snow, snow and more snow! The Steamboat Ski Resort's website reveals predictions an 80% chance of snow for the next 3 days. The National Weather services has issued a Winter Storm Warning / Snow Advisory:

For those of you who are Steamboat, enjoy every flake of powder. I will be out there with you this weekend.

2 feet this weekend. My left shoulder tells me so.

The Steamboat Area weather advisory has jolted awake my frozen heart .

Melancholy due to the fact that I was unable to take run down Vagabond this past Thanksgiving, I barely noticed the powder snow heaping on top of my car this morning. That is, until I noticed my socks were caked with snow on the way to work, at around the same time I realized that I hadn't put the Shredmeistermobil into 4-wheel drive.

My car swung into a 270 degree spin, landing me directly facing the Steamboat Ski Resort's See Me ski run. The thick, white covering of freshly fallen powder snow snapped everything into focus, and I could only think "2 days to Steamboat Opening Day!"

And now for the
Winter Storm Warning: Up to two feet of snow over the weekend. "Me bones arrr! telling me the weather people aren't kidding!"

Turns out the
Steamboat Ski Resort is opening right on time (November 30th) -- with mucho mucho fresh snow.

Shouldn't you be where the snow is?

2 Days till Opening and it's dumping snow!

There are only two more sleeps till the Steamboat Ski Resort opens its ski trails for the 2007/2008 ski season. Opening Day is November 30th.

Overnight, Steamboat received 6 inches of new snow. This is on top of the 3-5 inches we received over the last few days and the 9 inches that we received the day before Thanksgiving. Winter is officially here.

Opening Day will be especially exciting this year due to the Grand Opening of the Christie Peak Express ski lift, just outside the Torian Plum. The ribbon cutting and Grand Opening at 8:30am on Friday kicks off a weekend of celebration that includes a $6 Pancake Breakfast and Après ski specials at the Bear River Bar & Grill with live music from Worried Men.

Scholarship Day, the traditional opening day benefit for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, is also Friday, November 30. As in past years, all proceeds from Scholarship Day’s specially priced lift ticket will benefit the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s Scholarship Fund, which provides financial support for deserving children participating in Club programs. The Scholarship Day program has raised more than $525,000 since its inception in 1991.

Snow storms about to hit Steamboat!

Snow storms are lined up around Colorado, ready to pummel Steamboat with much needed Champagne Powder snow.

"Steamboat Springs could receive between 2 and 5 inches of snow from a storm moving into the region today, said Ellen Heffernan, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Junction. The blast of winter associated with the storm — which should bring the lowest daytime temperatures since last winter — will be a welcome sight to many skiers and riders after a particularly mild fall..." Steamboat Ski Resort Now Opening November 30, 2007

Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation announced today that it has rescheduled its 2007/2008 Scholarship/Opening Day to Friday, November 30, 2007 due to the recent period of warm weather.

“Steamboat is headed into a La Nina winter, which as studies show, could mean heaps of Champagne Powder® snow throughout the season, but the warm weather patterns we’ve experienced lately have made snowmaking a challenge,” said Andy Wirth, executive vice president of sales & marketing and chief marketing officer for Intrawest.

“Snowmaking crews, which were busy making snow last night, are ready to take full advantage of colder temperatures and conditions; and, as we’ve seen in the past, everything can change in a matter of days.”

Scholarship Day, the traditional opening day benefit for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, now will be held on Friday, November 30.

Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

Winter is coming to Steamboat Springs. It always does.

To borrow from Tom Ross, columist for The Steamboat Today,
"Jeff Colton uttered words to warm a skier’s frozen heart Monday." “We should begin to see a series of storms ripple across the region. It’s what we typically see this time of year,” Colton said. “The patterns favor northern Colorado (as opposed to) the southern part of the state. It looks like this will be a northern mountain winter...” ...READ MORE

In fact, the first few weeks of the Steamboat ski season are typcially my favorite. Some of my 'top ten' epic powder days have been in the very last days of November and early December.

This is one of the best times to ski the
Steamboat Ski Resort. Steamboat lodging is cheap, and you have the ski runs all to yourself. Pure heaven!

Steamboat Springs receives 11 inches of new Snow!

Do you remember "The Electric Company" TV show? The one with the groovy numbers song? This tune was tickling me between my ears as I plowed through the first big snow dump at the Steamboat Springs Ski Resort, "S-s-s-snow, snow, sn-sno-sn-sno-snow, snow..."

Eleven inches of new snow, to be exact!

It won't be long before my good friend, Powderman Shredworthy, starts hiking his ski bum self up that mountain to shred the early stuff on his rock boards. Look for the tracks on the Steamboat Mountain Cam!

Steamboat Receives First Significant Snow Fall

This morning we woke to the first significant snow fall in Steamboat Springs this fall. True, it has snowed and rained every Sunday for the past month and the ski area's six peaks have been snow capped all that time. But, today was the first day that we have woken to snow on the ground around ResortQuest's condos and townhomes; today was the first day we had to scrape snow off the car.

Actually, "scrape" is the wrong word. I had to open my car doors and shut them with a little less force than a slam. In true Steamboat Champagne Powder fashion, the snow just slides off.

This is one of the most beautiful times of the year. The first snowfalls on the Aspen's which still have luminous gold leaves is a sight everyone should see. So, here are a couple of pictures from our Flickr Photo of the Day collection...

Misty Mountain Top

Mellow Greetings from the Shredmeister!

The Base of the Steamboat Ski Area is in the midst of a Lodging revolution: The whole of the Steamboat Mountain is still this morning beneath a cottony veil of late Fall mist. The eerie calm is broken by the whack-whack-whack of the nail guns, the jibba-jibba-jack! of the power hammers and the ever-patient beep, beep of the earth movers and construction machines re-tracing their path on their way to munch another mouthful of Colorado earth.

We here at RQ are brimming with excitement at our new acquisitions, a top base area location in the Snowflower Condominiums, along with the top-of-the-line Emerald Lodge at Trappeur's Crossing Resort augmenting our offerings for this season onward.

With the Summit of the Steamboat Ski Area starting to nuzzle again under the coming Winter's blanket of White, I can't wait to start checking the Steamboat Springs' Snow Report, and I'm already dreaming of the Pow we'll shred under bluebird skies. I can hear the excitement in our guests' voices as they call to cash in on our last-minute Lodging and Lift Ticket Deals. Don't YOU miss out!

Welcome to the ResortQuest Steamboat Ski Report Blog!

I am the Sales and Marketing Director for ResortQuest Steamboat Vacation Rentals. I am launching this blog because I am believe that my ski-bum coworkers have a rare and honest insight into Steamboat's ski conditions. We love living in Steamboat, and love to ski/board as many days out of the year as possible. And LOVE to tell anyone who will take the time to listen all about our day on the mountain.

Weather and snow reports can only tell us so much about the ski conditions. 14" of powder represents an entirely different experience for a 5 year old, a 25 year old, a 50 year old and an 85 year old.

Therefore, I am not only banding together with my fellow ski bums at ResortQuest, but I am also appealing to our homeowners and our guests provide feedback, photos and movies about their Steamboat skiing experiences.

I love my job. I love living in Steamboat. I feel lucky to have a job that allows me to tell the world just how great Steamboat is. I hope you enjoy this Steamboat skiing resource.

For now,
Summer is in full swing, and Opening Day is still a few months away (November 22, 2007). Check back closer to the ski season, and LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW!
